Guest Blogger: Anita W. Talks Customer Support!

anita
Hi there! I'm Anita. You may know me as the one who responded to your email about uploading your video. Or perhaps I sent you a thank you in response to the great feedback you gave about making our site better. Basically, when you write to us at Motionbox, there’s a chance it’ll be me who will respond to your email.

I lead the Customer Support team here at Motionbox and it’s not only my job, but my heart’s desire to hear about your experiences with our site. Call me goofy and slightly melodramatic, but it’s also sincere and true.

I‘m in Customer Support because I like being in the business of helping, and even better, helping within the realm of technology. It’s been my life’s work for more than 12 years.

Guest Blogger: Josh the Designer Shares His Animation!

joshHey there loyal Motionboxers! My name's Josh and I'm the web designer here at Motionbox. When I'm not slaving tirelessly away over a hot laptop to make your user interface experience flawless ;), I'm working on my own artistic projects.

I currently play drums in a band (according to my mom, we're really, really, REALLY good) and once in a while, I'll get my lovely girlfriend Mona to take a video of us rocking the Casbah to send to bookers, talent agents, radio stations, our 7-8 MySpace friends etc. Motionbox makes sharing that video a cinch. In fact, I can say without a doubt that because of these videos, we MIGHT get to play my buddy's brother's wedding next month. Cha-ching! But in all seriousness, sharing the video with people who ACTUALLY want to see it is awesome.

Guest Blogger: Greg on Cameras that Also Shoot Great Video

Hi I'm Greg, a product guy at Motionbox.  I spend most of my waking hours keeping up with all the latest video capturing devices like point and shoot cameras and camcorders to make sure features on Motionbox work well with all the cameras that people are using.  I'm usually the guy people go to when its time to buy a new a camera and they need a recommendation.  So, I thought I'd recommend a few cameras.  (And yep, the video from these cameras will work perfectly with Motionbox!)

Nowadays, chances are your point and shoot camera also takes great video, new DSLR's shoot HD video and your cell phone shoots both pictures and video (albeit at lower quality).  Here are some of my favorites:

Guest Blogger: Kristy the Copywriter

Kristy the CopywriterHi there! I'm Kristy, and I'm the one who writes all the words you see. On the site, in your inbox, I'm kind of everywhere. I also help out with Customer Support, so you might see my name on some emails from time to time.

My job is to communicate with you guys, which I really love doing. And so today I thought I would talk about how I use Motionbox.

I used to find it really hard to take video, because I never knew what to shoot, and I ended up with all this boring footage, always missing the moments that were really priceless. So first I started narrating my videos. But then I realized that the sound of my voice is incredibly annoying. So I started asking questions of the people I was filming, so that they could do the talking. It's worked really well, and the video I capture is usually much more interesting.

I have two nephews, so there is always LOTS of video of them running around, pretending to be pirates, or dancing to the music. The other major thing I recently filmed was my wedding. Well, I didn't film it, because that would have been awkward. But I got married this fall and one of my Motionbox colleagues was nice enough to film the ceremony and some of the reception for me. So here is my absolute favorite moments of the whole, hour-plus long video. This is my flower girl, Delaney, attempting to make it down the aisle. It cracks me up every time. Enjoy!

Mike

Hey there. I'm Mike, one of the folks at Motionbox committed to making Motionbox the best personal video-sharing site out there.

As you can imagine, there are a good number of video nerds here at Motionbox. Truth be told, I'm not really one of them. I just want to shoot a bunch of video of my family and friends, upload it to Motionbox, and share it with them (mostly with the goal of embarrassing each and every one of them).

And, I want it to be easy.

See How One Of Our Staffers Uses Motionbox

michele.jpg

Hi Everybody,

I was a member of Motionbox for 8 months before coming to work for the company. But my most important role is that of a proud aunt, who uses Motionbox to share everything from a moment of uncontrollable laughter to sloppy eating to sleepy time stories. As somebody on the inside, I can tell you that the people here care. We use the service ourselves, and recommend it to friends and family, so we're motivated to make it great.

It's a given that for any special occasion, I'll be taking both photo and video. But video for me is also a part of everyday life. I don't leave the house without it—in the form of my cell phone and usually a point-and-shoot camera. And Motionbox, in my opinion, has made it as easy as can be to share video… so I do, and sometimes more often than photos.

I share lots of videos online, like travel adventures or my dad cooking his famous chicken adobo. But my FAVORITE footage is that of my niece. I email or instant message the link to everybody! She's almost 2 years old now and absolutely adorable. There are just some things best captured by video-- watch this and I bet you'll agree.

Sometimes I'll share the straight up video in its entirety as filmed. But usually, I'll take the extra few minutes to edit it down to the best parts in the Motionbox Mixer. Here's an example that might give you some ideas. It's called "A Year in the Life" (actually my niece's very first year). Enjoy!

Introducing Our First Guest Blogger: Jonathan, Senior Systems Developer

Jonathan, Motionbox Web Developer

Hey all out there.

Well, the community outreach folks asked me to write a blog post for Motionbox, and I was thrilled! "We have a blog?!" I asked excitedly...

I climbed out of the servers, dusted myself off, and tried to imagine what I
could say. I believe I have a unique perspective on the whole "Motionbox"
thing, as I was one of the first developers hired and I've seen the company go
through a myriad of changes.

We've spent hours and hours over the past two years debating, planning, and
arguing about how to make the user experience better from a technical
standpoint. I think we're in a very good position now to really start ramping things up.

I think the biggest thing I'm looking forward to is that we're going to start
really building out our encoder technology. In addition to adding a lot more
servers, we're going to be working on the framework that we use to schedule
jobs. Trying to fairly balance everybody's needs is a difficult task, and
we've spent months working on a plan to meet that challenge.

This will mean that for you, dear user, there will be less waiting around.

My colleagues are some of the brightest people I've ever had the pleasure of
meeting, and they are all very passionate about what they do. I hope that
comes through in the site when you guys are using it!

I really want to say how much I respect and enjoy the team. It makes a huge
difference to work with people that inspire you to do your best. *That's* the
thing that Motionbox does for me.
