Premium FAQ
Motionbox currently offers two kinds of memberships for personal video sharing: Basic and Premium. With a Motionbox Premium membership, you get everything Basic members get and the following:
- Virtually Unlimited Video Storage
- Large File Uploads
- HD Playback
- High Quality Downloads
- Priority Encoding
- Logo-free Embedded Player
But what does that mean exactly? Users have a lot of questions before paying for a Premium account, and rightfully so. So, we’ve put together a list of the most frequently asked questions we get about our Premium service. Take a look, and if your question still isn’t answered in this list, let us know!
What do I need to download to start using Motionbox Premium?
Nothing! You don't need to download anything extra to get started on Motionbox. All you need is a computer, an Internet connection, a web browser, and the basic Flash player that is used for all video websites.
Is there a limit on how long each video I upload can be? Does it have to be under a certain number of minutes or file size?
There’s absolutely no file size or length limit for the videos you upload to Motionbox. Some longer videos are more successful than others, however. Check out our new Motionbox Express Uploader (MXU) to upload large files easily and reliably.
What does "virtually unlimited" storage mean?
Our service is designed for you to upload video memories as you make them, and to continue to share them year after year. We want you to be able to upload videos of special occasions and share new clips from your point-and-shoot on a regular basis. For the vast majority of our Premium members, "virtually unlimited storage" means that you can upload videos to your heart's content.
In order to keep our service reliable and affordable for all of our customers, we occasionally have to take action if a user is storing truly massive amounts of video on Motionbox. If we your storage needs lie beyond the limits of "personal use," we may contact you to arrange a move to our PRO service, or help you find another hosting solution.
If your upload activity greatly exceeds average usage in any given month, or if you upload 100 GB of content within one subscription year, we may contact you to discuss alternate pricing plans or storage solutions. Meanwhile, if you suspect that you will need a lot of storage space, please contact us and we'll be glad to help you find the right service to fit your needs.
Again, most Motionbox Premium customers will never see a limit on how much they can upload, store, and share. To view the legalese on storage and usage, please read our Terms & Conditions.
Once I upload my videos to Motionbox, how do I share them with my family and friends?
You'll be able to share your videos directly from Motionbox. Just click the "Share" button below your video player, enter in your friends' email addresses, and send! It’s as simple as that. You may also choose to share the URL of your open access video or even share your video by embedding it on your blog or website.
How will the quality of my videos on a Premium account be better than what Basic (free) Motionbox members upload?
Premium members have exclusive access to an extra player. It's an HD player that allows you to watch your videos in Hi-Def and full-screen.
Will my friends and family also be able to watch my videos in HD? What if they aren’t members?
Your friends and family don’t need to be Motionbox members to enjoy your videos in HD. As long as you are a Premium Member, they will have access to the HD player when watching your videos and mixes.
Can I embed the HD player on my blog or website?
Yup. And your website visitors will be able to watch your HD videos in full-screen!
I know downloading is a Premium feature. What does that mean exactly?
Once you upload your videos to Motionbox, you can download them back to your own computer anytime in high quality formats for your computer or iPod simply by clicking a button.
Can my friends and family download my videos too?
As long as you are a Premium Motionbox member and they are at least a Basic Motionbox Member, yes! This way they can enjoy watching your videos on their computer, without needing to be connected to the Internet.
How private can I make my videos on Motionbox?
You can make your videos as private or public as you want them to be, available for everyone to see, or only the people you choose. We know privacy is important and different for everyone, so we’ve got three privacy settings for you to choose from. Read more about them here.
Can I use Motionbox Premium for my commercial or professional videos?
Since Motionbox Basic and Premium accounts are for personal video sharing only, commercial use is strictly prohibited on them. If you have professional or commercial videos you'd like to upload to your account, we have a great, cost effective solution for you: Motionbox PRO. Check it out!
Will I see third party ads next to my Motionbox videos?
Not as a Premium or PRO member. Your videos won't be surrounded by ads OR other peoples’ videos!
Is it okay to delete my videos off my computer after uploading to Motionbox?
As a Premium member, you'll always be able to download your videos to your iPod and to your computer in a high-quality MPG4 format. If you shoot and upload high definition content and you'd like to download your videos in an HD format, you should set your default player to HD: http://www.motionbox.com/user/edit_default_player.
While we attempt to hang on to your original source video for as long as possible, we may occasionally remove these files for very old or inactive videos and keep only the encoded version. So if keeping your original files is important to you, we suggest that you use an additional method of backing them up.
If you'd like to ensure that you'll always be able to download your videos from Motionbox in their original source format, our Motionbox PRO service may better suit your needs. Please contact our Support team if you need any help deciding which membership is best for you.
How much will the Premium membership cost me?
Motionbox Premium currently costs just $39.99/year, that's just $3.33 a month!
This all sounds great, but do you have a trial offer?
Yes! We offer a "Premium Sampler" that allows you to check out our HD player and download functionality before you decide to upgrade. Just sign up for a Basic (free) account, and you’ll have the option of starting your 30-day Free Sampler. Or go to your Motionbox settings page anytime to get started.
What if I upgrade to Motionbox Premium, and then decide I don’t want it anymore?
If you’re unsatisfied with the Premium service, we'll give you a full refund within 14 days of your Premium upgrade. All you have to do is send us an e-mail.
